d. e. helbling |
The person known as d.e.helbling, a.k.a. Doug Helbling, is a career technologist (hardware/software/design and mfg process engineer) and a sometime writer living in the greater Portland area.
His fiction has been published in defunct legacy ezines Quanta and Nocturnal Ooze, in the more recent Under the Moon, in Rose City Sisters, and in the Artifact anthology. Some years back he created and edited the relatively short-lived ezine nanobison. His current writing projects include a rewrite of his second novel, another edit round of his non-fiction how-not-to book on paranormal investigation, and a new how-to book on mobile renewable energy projects.
His creative efforts on 3D art development, including game models/environments and animation, have been on hiatus for several months after a new daytime technology position engagement. But they are being revived at this time, with a focus on environmental art using 3ds max, Maya, and the Unity game engine.
Doug was recently booted from Facebook and his public-facing pages such as "Oregon Department of Propaganda" have been removed by Meta, apparently because they determined he was impersonating himself. His 14 year old account has been disabled. He still maintains a modest Instagram presence, but since this is also served up by Meta, it may be short-lived.
Doug has lowered his threshold of tolerance for bullshit from all sources in recent years. He does actively encourage vaccination, understanding of climate science, and exploration of genuine history. He welcomes contact from sane and reasonable people. He encourages people to own their own minds and act with compassion toward those around them.
Contrary to persistent rumors, he denies having a collection of MAGA skulls in his mancave, but says he is willing to accept donations to get one started. In the post-Trump era, Doug offers his sympathies to those with family and friends who have succumbed to right wing, racist, and hate agendas, and the cults that promote them. Reformed former Trumpers who are duly contrite will be welcomed back with open arms.
